Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday said that he spoke with US President Donald Trump and that the two agreed to meet in New York, adding that the meeting “could change a lot” as diplomatic momentum builds around efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Trump will be coming to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.“I just spoke with President Trump. An important conversation, and we got through a lot. We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could change a lot. There is diplomatic momentum,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.Zelenskyy said he thanked Trump for the visit to Kyiv by US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. “We went through the key details thoroughly, and they saw the situation in Ukraine firsthand,” he said.“The peace track is our number one priority,” Zelenskyy said, adding that there were ideas for de-escalation steps and for addressing fundamental security issues, including energy security, food security and the protection of human life.“We are working together with the American team and are ready to take really serious steps,” he said.Zelenskyy also thanked Trump for signing the Lindsey Graham bill into law, saying “We all concur – there must be peace.” “Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine! Thank you to everyone who’s helping!” Zelenskyy added.
